How many drinks does it take to become legally intoxicated?
The number of drinks it takes to become legally intoxicated varies from person to person. Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is the percentage of alcohol in a person's bloodstream. In New York state, a person is legally intoxicated if their BAC is 0.08% or higher. The following contain the same percentage of alcohol:
- 12 ounces of beer at 5% alcohol content
- 5 ounces of wine at 12% alcohol content
- 1.5 ounces of 80 proof liquor at 40% alcohol
- 12 ounces wine cooler at 5% alcohol content
