Meeting Highlights from the Clerk – 09/27/2023
Open Podium
Ingrid Gonzalez-McCurdy spoke about the special election and stated that she plans on following up with state elected officials regarding the laws that allow for special election. Ms. Gonzalez-McCurdy stated that she would like to know what the total cost of the election is.
Statement of Canvass & Special Election
Town Clerk Weber stated that the Statement of Canvass has been submitted to the Town Board is available on the website.
Supervisor Deer spoke about the results of the special election. Supervisor Deer stated that roughly 13% of all registered voters in the town voted in the special election. Supervisor Deer stated that this is a small percentage of voters, and that the town will begin discussions as to whether or not this is something that should be placed on a ballot in a general election. Supervisor Deer stated that the Town Board will be reaching out to state representatives regarding the laws that govern the special election process.
Immaculate Conception – Request for SIRO/SPO
Nancy Ferroni, Principal of Immaculate Conception School and John Karp, Parent of Students at Immaculate Conception School, spoke about the school’s request for an SPO at Immaculate Conception School. The school is willing to pay 100 percent of the cost of the SPO and they have identified a qualified individual to fill that position.
The Town Board discussed the matter at length. The Town Board will be asking other municipalities in New York that contract with private schools how they are able to contract for those services. The Town Board is also reaching out to the State for more information on their opinion that prevents a municipality from contracting with a private school for SPO services.
Public Hearing – Twin Shores Planned Unit Development PUD – N. Burdick St.
The Town Board reviewed SEQR and held a public hearing on the proposed PUD. The public hearing was held open.
Town of Manlius Police Department Bike Patrol
The Town of Manlius Police Department gave a presentation on the Bike Patrol division.
Tentative Budget
The Town Supervisor presented the 2024 Tentative Budget to the Town Clerk.
Fire Budget Public Hearings
The Town Board set a date for the Manlius, Fayetteville and Minoa Fire Contract public hearings on October 18, 2023 at 6:35 PM
Property Tax Cap
The Town Board adopted Local Law 2023-10 to Override the Property Tax Cap for the 2024 Fiscal Year
Unsafe Building
The Town Board adopted a resolution authorizing the adoption of the code enforcement officers report and set a date for a public hearing on November 15, 2023 at 6:35 pm in the matter of the unsafe buildings proceedings for the property located 6602 Fremont Rd.
TE-9 Wheeler Ave
The Town Board authorized the Town Clerk to submit a TE-9 for a speed study of Wheeler Ave, Meadow Drive and Old East Dyke Way.
Standard Workday Resolution
The Town Board approved the 2023 Standard Workday Resolution.
M&T Wilmington Trust
The Town Board authorized the purchase of a six-month treasury bill in the amount of 2 million Dollars with M&T / Wilmington Trust.
Deer Committee Update
Councilor Nicholson gave an update on the deer survey results.
Don Macpherson Enterprises LLC Contract
The Town Board approved the scope of services letter dated September 26, 2023, with Don Macpherson Enterprises LLC for training services for the Town of Manlius Police Department
